Why children need a pediatric eGFR equation
Children have developing bodies and different relationships between height, muscle mass, and creatinine. The Bedside Schwartz equation estimates eGFR as 0.413 multiplied by height in centimeters, divided by serum creatinine in mg/dL.
Important pediatric eGFR limitations
This estimate is for education and does not replace pediatric nephrology care. Infants, children with rapidly changing kidney function, and children with unusual body composition may require additional clinical assessment.
