CKD Stage Calculator: Understand Your eGFR Result from G1 to G5

Use an eGFR value from your lab report to see the corresponding chronic kidney disease category and the usual follow-up considerations.

Use the eGFR value from your laboratory report or calculate it with our CKD-EPI 2021 eGFR calculator.

A CKD stage cannot be diagnosed from one eGFR result alone. CKD generally requires persistent findings for at least three months and may also involve urine albumin or other evidence of kidney damage.

How CKD stages are determined from eGFR

CKD categories use estimated glomerular filtration rate ranges: G1 is 90 or higher, G2 is 60-89, G3a is 45-59, G3b is 30-44, G4 is 15-29, and G5 is below 15 mL/min/1.73 m². A stage is interpreted with urine albumin, symptoms, trends, and other clinical findings.

Is one eGFR result enough to diagnose CKD?

No. Chronic kidney disease generally requires a persistent abnormality for at least three months or another marker of kidney damage. Use this tool for education and discuss unexpected or falling results with a healthcare professional.
